Batch cooking can save both time and money whilst also providing tasty, healthy meals that are quick to reheat when you are short of time. Come along to this session to find out how batch cooking can cut your costs, provide the nutrients required for a healthy balanced diet and save you time. You will get the opportunity to prepare and make a dish that can be batch cooked to take home and get additional ideas for other batch cooking recipes.

During this session you will learn more about the nutritional and cost benefits of homemade cooking, you will take home what you make and receive recipe cards for the items you have cooked so that you are ready to make these again at home.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

Just an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to have a go. Please note that East Riding of Yorkshire Council is unable to guarantee a completely allergen free environment. If you would like more information prior to booking please contact us.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

Please bring an apron with you and a container with a lid to take home what you make. You will also need to bring with you the following ingredients:

  • Tomato Sauce: 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 celery stick, 2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes

  • Mince: 1 large onion, 300g minced beef.

*Please note that if you are entitled to a concession and you qualify for a free course then please talk to us as we may be able to support you with the cost of these ingredients.

    How will I be taught?

You will participate in both group demonstrations and work alongside the tutor to practise the skills and techniques of preparing and presenting dishes suitable for batch cooking and freezing.

    What will I learn?

Our tutor will guide you through the processes of preparing meals suitable for preparing ahead of time and freezing if you wish to. You will also learn about the nutritional and cost benefits of home cooking.

    What could I do next?

Our cookery classroom opened at the Cottingham Adult Learning Centre in December 2018 and we are really excited to be able to offer a range of seasonal courses that appeal to cooks of all levels. Your tutor will discuss our range of cookery sessions with you and we will also ask you for your ideas of what you would like to see on offer in the future. Other sessions include bread making, making sweet treats, making soups, savoury and sweet treats for children, desserts, family cookery, speciality world cuisine, healthy eating, meals on a budget and pastry making.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
