During this session you will learn more about the nutritional and cost benefits of homemade cooking, you will take home what you make and receive recipe cards for the items you have cooked so that you are ready to make these again at home.
The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.
If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.
Just an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to have a go.
Please note that East Riding of Yorkshire Council is unable to guarantee a completely allergen free environment. If you would like more information prior to booking please contact us. If you have an allergy then please be sure to let us know before the course.
Please bring an apron with you and a container with a lid to take home what you make. You will also need to bring with you the following ingredients:
Blueberry and jam muffins: approx. 2 tbsp fresh blueberries
Coconut cookies: no additional ingredients required
Apple roses: 125g ready made puff pastry, 1 red apple.
*Please note that if you are entitled to a concession and you qualify for a free course then please talk to us as we may be able to support you with the cost of these ingredients.
You will participate in both group demonstrations and work alongside the tutor to practise the skills and techniques of preparing and presenting these simple sweet treats for children to enjoy.
Our tutor will guide you through the processes of preparing healthy desserts and sweet treats suitable for children using basic cookery techniques. You will also learn some useful tips and tricks on how to present your dishes in a way that will tempt even the fussiest eater!
Our cookery classroom opened at the Cottingham Adult Learning Centre in December 2018 and we are really excited to be able to offer a range of seasonal courses that appeal to cooks of all levels. Your tutor will discuss our range of cookery sessions with you and we will also ask you for your ideas of what you would like to see on offer in the future. Other sessions include bread making, making savoury treats, making soups, batch cooking, desserts, family cookery, speciality world cuisine, healthy eating, meals on a budget and pastry making.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
