During this session you will learn more about the nutritional and cost benefits of homemade cooking, you will take home what you make and receive recipe cards for the items you have cooked so that you are ready to make these again at home.
The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.
If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.
Just an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to have a go.
Please note that East Riding of Yorkshire Council is unable to guarantee a completely allergen free environment. If you would like more information prior to booking please contact us.
Please bring an apron with you and an oven proof dish that you can take home what you make. You will also need to bring with you the following ingredients:
Cottage pie: 250g lean beef mince, 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 celery stick, 100ml of red wine (optional), 450g potatoes, 50g strong cheddar
Yorkshire Pudding: No extra ingredients needed.
You will participate in both group demonstrations and work alongside the tutor to practise the skills and techniques of preparing and making cottage pie.
Our tutor will guide you through the processes of preparing and making your cottage pie. You will also learn some useful tips and tricks on how to serve and present your food in an attractive way so that you can impress your family and guests!
Our cookery classroom opened at the Cottingham Adult Learning Centre in December 2018 and we are really excited to be able to offer a range of seasonal courses that appeal to cooks of all levels. Your tutor will discuss our range of cookery sessions with you and we will also ask you for your ideas of what you would like to see on offer in the future. Other sessions include bread making, making sweet treats, making soups, batch cooking, desserts, family cookery, speciality world cuisine, healthy eating, meals on a budget and pastry making.
