Burgers don’t have to be unhealthy, in fact this homemade burger meal is a delicious treat that you can easily make at home. During this session you will make everything you need for a healthy balanced burger and wedges meal, including your own brioche bun, and will learn more about the nutritional and cost benefits of homemade cooking. You will take home what you make and receive recipe cards for the items you have cooked so that you are ready to make these again at home.

What will I learn?

Our tutor will guide you through the processes of preparing this meal giving you the confidence and skills needed to make this again at home, You will also learn some useful tips and tricks on how to present your dishes and also learn about the nutritional and cost benefits of home cooking.

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

What do I need to join the course?

Just an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to have a go.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Please bring an apron with you and a container with a lid to take home what you make.  You will also need to bring with you the following ingredients:

Burger: 100g minced Turkey, 1 onion, 25g dried apricot (optional), 1 small carrot, 1 garlic clove

Wedges: 1 large sweet potato

Brioche: ½ tsp dried yeast (not fast action),1 tbsp butter, 115 g strong flour

You may also like to bring grated / sliced cheese, onion (spring or red onion), tomato, lettuce, cucumber to finish your meal.
