Course details

Creative writing is any form of writing that expresses thoughts and ideas in an imaginative way. It could be an epic science fiction novel set in an imaginary galaxy, or it could be the screenplay for a romantic comedy set in modern-day New York.

On this free taster session you’ll learn about how to write creatively, including using mind maps to plan out your work and you’ll write a short piece of flash fiction to take home. You’ll also find out more about our adult education centres and get to meet some of our team.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

Enthusiasm to learn more! You do not need to have any previous experience or knowledge of creative writing to join this course.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring along a notebook and pen. We are following safety guidelines so, at the moment, we are unable to provide these for you.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a specialist tutor and will take part in a range of taster activities.

What will I learn?

On this short try course you will learn more about creative writing, including how to use mind maps and how to write a piece of flash fiction. You will also find out more about other courses that are available, should you decide that you want to continue to learn more.

What could I do next?

Once you’ve attended this course you’ll be in a position to decide whether you wish to continue to learn more about creative writing. If so then you may wish to progress to one of our other creative writing courses and your tutor will give you more information about this in the session. If you want to try a different subject then we offer a range of opportunities in computer skills, English, maths, employability, creative skills, retail, photography, supporting teaching and learning in schools and many others.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
