In this workshop you will be able to use your existing skills to design and create a piece of your own choosing - crockery for your own home or to give as gifts, decorative items for your garden or walls or perhaps a sculptural piece. Our tutor will be on hand to offer support and guidance, helping you to perfect your own designs and advising on the techniques needed to create your final items. You will also have the opportunity to develop your hand building, throwing and decorative techniques.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

You should have experience of basic pottery techniques and you may benefit from having attended our range of pottery courses.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

The course fee includes basic materials, which will be supplied. You may need to purchase additional materials depending on your individual project and you will need to supply your own protective clothing including an apron, gloves and mask. We would also advise you to wear sensible footwear for moving around the pottery room. You will need to bring any additional items you wish to incorporate into your project on the first week, if you have any questions then please contact us. In this workshop you will select, design and complete your own project piece. Our specialist tutor will be on hand at all times to advise, support and guide you in this.

How will I be taught?

You will be guided by an experienced tutor and will take part in a range of activities including demonstrations, group and individual practical work.

What will I learn?

On the course you will work on your own project and be able to consolidate skills such as throwing pots, using glazes and surface decoration and techniques for hand building sculpture.

What could I do next?

Your tutor will advise you on how you may further develop your pottery skills. You may also consider some of our other Adult Learning courses such as pattern making, knitting, flower arranging, dressmaking, mindfulness and photography or computer skills, English, maths and employability courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
