Have you just purchased, or are thinking of purchasing, a tablet or mobile phone and want to know where to start? Then this is the perfect course for you. On this course, you will learn the very basics of using your tablet or smartphone, connecting to the internet and using apps..

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need any previous experience, just a willingness to come and take part. It will be helpful if you have your own tablet or smartphone, but if not, just let us know when you enrol and you can use one of ours in each session.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

We recommend that you bring a notebook and a pen and your tablet or mobile phone if you wish to use it. All of our classrooms have free wifi.

How will I be taught?

This course will be delivered by an experienced tutor in one of our computer suites. The sessions will include demonstrations as well as group activities and individual exercises. You may wish to carry out work outside the classroom to help you practise and apply the skills and knowledge that you gained.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to:

  • turn on and shutdown your device and use the touchscreen
  • change your settings and connect to wifi and the internet
  • use apps that are useful for daily life, e.g. weather, news, calculator
  • search for, install and uninstall apps and organise them on your home page.

What could I do next?

We hope you will enjoy the course so much that you will enrol on the next course in the series: Developing your tablet and smartphone skills. Alternatively, you could choose another from our range of accredited or non-accredited IT courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
