Are you looking to develop your poetry skills or to get started with writing poetry? If you are, then sign up below and book your place on this four week course that will help you to put pen to paper and develop your ability to write poetry in different styles and formats. You’ll become part of a friendly and supportive group and will have the opportunity to work together to produce poetry based on different themes and topics each week.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need any knowledge of poetry at all, just the enthusiasm to put pen to paper and have a go. You may have attended Getting started with poetry, although this is not essential.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

You don’t need to bring anything, but you may bring your own notebook and pen if you prefer.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a small, friendly group by our enthusiastic and experienced tutor. You will take part in some discussions and work independently to produce your poetry, which you can share with the group in each session.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to structure your work into iambic pentameter and how to write poetry about a range of topics, such as emotions and events. You will also learn about editing and improving your work, as well as different ways to present it.

What could I do next?

You can progress to the next step of the course, which is Moving on with poetry. You may be interested in other creative courses, such as creative writing, photography or speaking confidently in public. You may also be interested in gaining qualifications in English, maths or ICT.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
