If you use online services like Google, Facebook or Youtube then you have a wealth of incredible free content at your fingertips – but like anything free, it can come with a hidden cost. Sign up to our Internet safety and security course to learn more about the potential pitfalls of sharing your information online, and the steps you can take to protect yourself. We’ll start with the very basics, and learn about how to keep yourself and your family safe and secure while you enjoy being online.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need any previous experience, just a willingness to come and take part. It would be helpful if you have some experience of previously using the internet.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

We recommend that you bring a notebook and a pen.

How will I be taught?

This course will be delivered by an experienced tutor in one of our computer suites. This hands-on session will include demonstrations as well as group activities and individual exercises.

What will I learn?

You will learn:

  • how to secure your social media accounts and manage privacy settings
  • the do’s and don’ts of using social media and how to stay safe
  • privacy tips for safeguarding yourself and your family
  • how to use parental controls and filter content

What could I do next?

You could choose another course from our range of IT themes, such as: recognising fake news and online scams, protecting yourself from cyber risks or online shopping. You may also want to continue learning computer and digital skills by attending our improve your computer and digital skills course, where you can choose from a range of accredited options, or enrol on a European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) course.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
