If English is not your first language, but you already have some basic language skills, then joining this course will help you to improve your English speaking and listening skills. You will learn new words and phrases so that you are more confident when talking to other people about different methods of communication, the use of technology and online safety. You will talk about communication and technology in a small, friendly class and will have lots of opportunities to practise speaking in and listening to English as well as doing some basic reading and writing exercises.

What do I need to join the course?

If you are a new learner you will need to meet with one of our team who will talk to you about the course and help you to get started. If you have already attended one of our classes your tutor will advise you on the areas you need to work on and practise.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

It would be helpful to bring a notebook and a pen. If you have already attended one of our other courses bring along any work you have.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in English from the beginning and will be encouraged to speak in English. With the tutor’s help you will work on your own skills and take part in small group activities.

What will I learn?

  • your preferred methods of communication
  • using technology in different areas of your life
  • the use of computers and the Internet
  • online safety
  • how technology may be used in the future
  • You will make an A-Z mini-dictionary of words and phrases related to communication and technology

What could I do next?

There are lots of courses available that include a range of topics that you may want to learn more about. Towards the end of this course you and your tutor will decide what is the best next step for you.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
