This qualification aims to provide you with a more in-depth knowledge of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work. You will develop your counselling skills and your understanding of the different approaches involved; helping you to appreciate the importance of self-development. You’ll identify, practice and develop a range of interpersonal and counselling skills and have an opportunity to understand and evaluate key elements of the main theoretical approaches to counselling. You’ll understand the context within which counselling skills and referral processes can be used whilst maintaining ethical standards and you’ll understand the implications of applying counselling skills in a diverse society. The qualification also provides you with the opportunity to reflect on your personal development and the way in which you interact with others.

What do I need to join the course?

You must have successfully completed the Level 2 Counselling qualification as well as attended our introduction to L3 Counselling course and have a good level of written English (at level 2) and ICT skills.

You will also require a minimum of 5 hours independent learning per week.

Before enrolling you will also need to talk to one of our members of staff who will explain the course requirements to you in full and advise you about the required access to online learning.

As the course is being delivered virtually through Microsoft Teams you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge) and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities. This will include having some basic computer skills, including being able to use a keyboard and mouse.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

This course is delivered via virtual learning on Microsoft Teams. You will not need to attend any classroom delivery but you will need to commit to attending the virtual sessions at the specified dates and times. In order to participate in the virtual sessions you will need access to the following:

  • Computer/Laptop/Tablet
  • Headset/earphones if required, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed/disturb others
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address to access the virtual classroom
  • A means of using video conferencing e.g. integrated webcam, webcam, tablet with camera
  • Teams app downloaded (free download is available)
  • You may find it useful to have a notebook and pen to make notes and you may be asked to submit work back to your tutor, therefore the ability to produce a text or word document that you can upload or email to your tutor will be beneficial.

If you are unsure about how to join a virtual learning session please contact us as soon as possible, but at the latest 2 working days prior to your course starting.  We will then arrange for one of our Personal Advisors to contact you and talk you through how to access the sessions.

How will I be taught?

Teaching will be through weekly discussion, watching video clips, taught objectives through PowerPoint, reading materials, assignments, quizzes and short practical sessions using skills taught.

What qualifications can I get?

On successful completion of the course you will gain the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.

What could I do next?

At the end of your course your tutor will talk to you about the most appropriate next step for you. The Counselling L3 Dimploma will support your progression to further study at the next level of vocational learning and may lead you to further employment opportunities in a number of roles, including:

  • support worker (supported living)
  • healthcare support service worker
  • clinical healthcare support worker
  • mental health support worker
  • information, advice and guidance worker
  • health education/health promotion worker.

Free level 3 qualifications

If you are 19 or over and do not already have a full level 3 qualification (equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or A levels) you can now access a free qualification.

Some of these qualifications are available to study online or part-time.

The courses will help you:

  • gain qualifications that are needed and valued by employers
  • improve your job prospects
  • progress in work
  • earn a good wage

Eligibility

You can access one of the free level 3 qualifications if you are aged 19 or over and want to achieve your first level 3 qualification, which is equivalent to an advanced technical certificate or diploma, or A levels.

Some of these qualifications are available to study online or part-time. In some instances, you may need to meet admissions criteria for the course you chose to apply for. For example, you may need to have studied a particular subject before at a lower level.

Previously, if you were aged 24 or over, you would have had to pay the course fee for these qualifications. Now, many colleges and training providers have funding available to cover this cost for you.
