Do you need to use a range of word processing skills in your current job? Have you recently moved to a new role and your word skills are being put to the test? If your answer is yes, then our Word fundamentals course is right for you.

This beginners course will cover basic fundamentals, such as formatting tools, inserting tables and images and keyboard shortcuts.

Having a good understanding of the basics of Word can give you a great base to build further knowledge from - or just make your day to day usage much more efficient. Either way, this course is a great place to start.

What do I need to join the course?

To join this session, you will need to be able to access Office 365, Word, and Microsoft Teams. You should be comfortable communicating through MS Teams. If you are unsure about any of the above, then look at attending Microsoft Teams Foundation first.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Please ensure you come with the following:

  • Your council login details.
  • Access to Microsoft Teams, Office 365, and Word
  • A good/stable internet connection
  • You may also wish to have a notepad and pen available to make notes.

What is it like to learn with Learning Skills and Workforce Development?

This course will be delivered by an experienced tutor using a variety of methods. The sessions will include demonstrations as well as group activities and individual exercises, set within the context of a typical work environment. There will be opportunities for you to ask questions and engage in topical discussions.

What will I learn?

On this course, we will cover:

  • Word interface and terminology
  • Formatting text and formatting options within Word
  • Differences between Word online and the installed application.
  • Inserting and editing objects (images, tables)
  • Shortcut keys and tools
  • Self-development help tools
