The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.
If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.
All you need is an interest in helping others and enthusiasm to learn. If you are currently studying or plan to study topics such as counselling, mental health, teaching or working with children, this would be an ideal course to expand your knowledge. You may have attended our Introduction to Dyslexia or Try Understanding Neurodiversity courses, but this is not essential.
Please bring along a notebook and pen. We are following safety guidelines so, at the moment, we are unable to provide these for you.
You will be taught by our friendly and knowledgeable tutor and take part in a range of individual and group work, as well as group discussions and activities.
You will learn what dyslexia is and how to identify the common signs of dyslexia. You will also learn about how dyslexia affects people aside from reading and writing, in terms of the social, emotional and behavioural effects that may be experienced and the different coping strategies that people can use to help themselves in everyday situations.
On successfully creating a portfolio of evidence, you will gain the Level 1 Award in Dyslexia Awareness (from Gateway Qualifications).
You can progress to the Level 2 Award in Dyslexia Awareness or you may be interested in our other courses on dyspraxia, Asperger’s and ADHD. You tutor will be able to give you more information about these options. We also offer a wider range of qualifications, including mental health awareness, supporting teaching and learning in schools, English, maths and digital skills.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
