Course details

Does the thought of speaking to an audience fill you with fear? Do you wish you were more confident in speaking to groups of people? If this sounds like you then come along to this session to boost your confidence and prepare yourself for speaking in public.

This session can help you with interview preparation and general confidence when communicating with others in lots of different situations. Our supportive tutor will work with you to help you to overcome your nerves and give you the preparation you need to feel confident and ready to stand up and speak out!

This course is especially useful to learners on functional skills English courses who may need to do a presentation as part of their qualification, people preparing for interviews and people wanting to get more involved in community activities or volunteering opportunities.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

Enthusiasm to learn! You do not need to have any previous experience or knowledge to join this course.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

Please bring along a notebook and pen. We are following safety guidelines so, at the moment, we are unable to provide these for you. There will be an opportunity to practice speaking to the group at the end of the session, so an idea of a familiar topic you would be happy to talk about would be helpful.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by an experienced and supportive tutor in a small group and you will take part in a range of activities, including self-evaluation and discussions and you will also have the opportunity to demonstrate your new found confidence at the end of the session.

What will I learn?

You will learn how to:

  • boost your confidence and speak better in front of other people
  • identify your own fears about speaking in public and how to tackle them
  • prepare for speaking in public, including practising, preparing notes and managing your nerves.

What could I do next?

You can use your new skills to apply for a job or a new course, perform better at work or progress to a new qualification. Your tutor will chat with you after the session about your next steps, or you can make an appointment to come in and see what other opportunities you may be interested in with us.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
