Course details

On this free, virtual Try course you’ll learn about some of the features of Microsoft PowerPoint. PowerPoint is one of the most popular presentation software applications in the world, capable of producing anything from simple slideshows to multimedia presentations.

You’ll learn the basics of creating and styling slides, as well as how to add images, text and bullet point lists. By the end of the session you’ll have created your own multi-page presentation, which you can save to work on later. You’ll also find out more about our team of tutors and our learning centres and have the opportunity to learn about follow-on courses.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need any previous experience, just a willingness to come and take part.

As the course is being delivered virtually through Microsoft Teams you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge) and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities. This will include having some basic computer skills, including being able to use a keyboard and mouse. You must also have access to powerpoint software to try out some of the tools.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

This course is delivered via virtual learning on Microsoft Teams. You will not need to attend any classroom delivery but you will need to commit to attending the virtual sessions at the specified dates and times. In order to participate in the virtual sessions you will need access to the following:

  • Headset/earphones if required, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed/disturb others
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address to access the virtual classroom

If you are unsure about how to join a virtual learning session please contact us as soon as possible, but at the latest 2 working days prior to your course starting.  We will then arrange for one of our Personal Advisors to contact you and talk you through how to access the sessions.

You may also want to attend our Preparing for virtual learning short session, this will help you to get started and feel confident in participating with any future virtual learning courses. What will I learn?

The session will include opening a new presentation, typing in slides, changing slide formats, inserting images and using bullet points. The tutor will explain how these digital skills can benefit you at home and/or work, and what else you could learn on a follow on course.

What could I do next?
