This course is intended to provide an overview of the full suite of qualifications we offer and what each qualification involves. It will prepare you for both the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and the Level 2 Certificate in SupportingTeaching and Learning in Schools (STLS)
At the end of the course you will be able to make an informed decision as to which is the best route for you.
You should have good maths and English skills and an interest in working with children and young people in schools; you do not need any formal qualifications.
Whilst you do not need to have a placement in school to attend this course you will find out the requirements for placement work and DBS checks that will be required for progression to the STLS level 2 certificate course is the right next step for you.
You will need an A4 ring binder, notebook and pen. You will need to have access to a computer and the internet outside of the course (we can help you with this).
You will be taught and supported by experienced tutors and will take part in some initial assessment tasks to find out what you already know. The course will include tutor input, small group work and online learning. Attendance at sessions is important to ensure that you are successful.
On this introductory course we will explain the main requirements for both the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and the Level 2 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (STLS) level 2 certificate. You will learn about aspects of the qualifications and take part in tasks that will prepare you for study at this level. At the end of the course the tutor will be able to support you to make an informed decision about your next steps.
Together with your tutor you will decide which is the right next step for you. You might progress to either the Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools or the STLS level 2 certificate course. Alternatively, your tutor can also give you information about a range of other courses we offer including ICT, English, maths and employability.
