This course will give you the opportunity and support to develop your own unique writing style through completing one of a choice of projects. You’ll need to be a confident writer already – you might benefit from having completed our Developing Creative Writing course first. You’ll work with your fellow learners to develop your own story, poem, screenplay or monologue and you’ll start to learn about potential publication options. You’ll work in different tenses, write to a specific theme and learn more about editing techniques.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

You may benefit from having attended the developing creative writing skills course.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

You will need a notebook and pen.

How will I be taught?

You will be guided and supported by an experienced tutor and will take part in a range of activities including individual and group work. The sessions will include presentations on different aspects of creative writing as well as the chance to plan, compose and evaluate your own work in a positive and supportive atmosphere. You will also have the chance to access resources and activities through our online learning platform.

What will I learn?

During your time on the course you will:

  • develop your individual writing style either through prose, poetry, screenplay or monologue
  • choose and work on your own project from the above list
  • share your ideas with the group and work together to go through the editing process
  • write to a given theme.

What could I do next?

You may wish to develop your skills further with our extending creative writing skills course. Your tutor will provide more information about this at the end of your course. You may also consider some of our other Adult Learning courses such as knitting, dressmaking, pattern making, flower arranging, mindfulness and photography or computer skills, English, maths and employability courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
