If you have already enrolled to take part in a virtual course with the Adult Learning team, or you are currently planning to come in to centre to learn, but would like to know more about what virtual learning involves, then this 2 hour session is a great way of finding out more.

In this free session we will explore the equipment and software you will need to access and participate in virtual learning and access resources and activities. We will also practice using video conferencing tools to connect with your tutor and other learners and answer any questions you may have in order to ensure that you are confident to enjoy and make the most of your virtual learning experience, now or in the future.

What do I need to join the course?

It is important that you are able to use a computer, mouse and keyboard and are able to access the internet.

In order to join this virtual learning course you will need:

A reliable internet connection, a webcam / camera and a computer/Laptop, you may also choose to use a headset or earphones with a microphone attachment. You should ensure that you have a suitable place to study that is free from any distractions.

You will need to have access to Microsoft Teams, which is available as a free download. A Customer Information Assistant will call and support you in advance to gain access to this virtual 2 hour session.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

As well as the essential equipment and software listed above, you will also need a notepad and pen to make your own notes from the session. You should have a willingness to participate in activities and an enthusiasm to learn!

How will I be taught?

This 2 hr session will be delivered virtually by an experienced tutor and will include demonstrations as well as group and individual practise of functions.

During this session you will learn how to:

  • access virtual learning software and know how to download app required
  • use equipment required to participate in virtual learning
  • find course resources and activities
  • use video conferencing software and main functions
