Course details

If English is not your first language then join this course and develop your English speaking and listening skills. You will learn new words and phrases so that you are more confident talking to people about education and your learning needs. You will be in a small, friendly class and will have lots of opportunities to practise speaking in and listening to English as well as doing some simple reading and writing exercises.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

If you are a new learner you will need to meet with one of our team who will talk to you about the course and help you to get started. If you have already attended one of our classes your tutor will advise you on the areas you need to work on and practise.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

It would be helpful to bring a notebook and a pen. If you have already attended one of our other courses bring along any work you have.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in English from the beginning and will be encouraged to speak in English. With the tutor’s help you will work on your own skills and take part in small group activities.

What will I learn?

You will:

  • Talk about the learning you have done in the past and what training you would like to do in this country
  • Talk about schools and colleges in this country
  • Discuss different ways in which you could improve your English skills
  • Find out about colleges and training in your local area and the courses they offer.

What could I do next?

There are lots of courses available that include a range of topics that you may want to learn more about. Towards the end of this course you and your tutor will decide what is the best next step for you.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
