Join us on this four week course to discover the world of creative writing and explore a range of writing techniques, styles and forms.

Perhaps you want to write your own stories but don’t know how to begin; maybe you want to have your work published, write a play for performance or pen a biography of a family member?

This course will help you to gain confidence in a friendly writer’s workshop learning environment. You’ll travel with your fellow learners on a journey of fiction, life writing, and drama, and learn to create your own worlds or document your own life.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need any knowledge of the subject or previous experience. Just an interest and enthusiasm to learn!

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Bring something to write with and on, notebook & pen, laptop, tablet etc.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a small, friendly group by our enthusiastic and experienced tutor. You will explore writers, concepts and techniques that demonstrate the ideas you are learning. The sessions are interactive and you will produce your writing through a workshop environment. You will be able to share your work with your peers and give/receive feedback.

The two hour sessions are divided into one hour of new knowledge/learning, and one hour of a writer’s workshop environment for learners to apply, practise and also share for peer review/feedback.

What will I learn?

This course is designed to lead you on your own writerly journey.

You will learn how to create your own protagonist/antagonist and about plot structures and storytelling to develop your narrative.

You will then use the editing process to shape the work you have created over the course into a further draft.

What could I do next?

You may wish to progress to our ‘developing creative writing skills’ course. Your tutor will provide more information about this at the end of your course.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
