Would you like to build on your creative writing skills by learning about genre, narrative and how to use different point of view techniques in your stories?

If you have a good grounding in the basics of creative writing (perhaps from our Getting Started with Creative Writing course) then this is a great opportunity to further tune into the power of writing and creativity.

On each session you’ll learn about a different technique, which you’ll be supported to bring together into a completed short story by the end of the course.

What do I need to join the course?

It would be useful if you have attended our Getting started with Creative Writing course.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Bring something to write with and on, notebook and pen, laptop, tablet etc.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught in a small, friendly group by our enthusiastic and experienced tutor. You will explore writers, concepts and techniques that demonstrate the ideas you are learning.

The sessions are interactive and you will produce your writing through a workshop environment. You will be able to share your work with your peers and give/receive feedback.

The two hour sessions are divided into one hour of new knowledge/learning, and one hour of a writer’s workshop environment for learners to apply, practise and also share for peer review/feedback.

What will I learn?

In this four week course you will develop your skills in:

  • genre
  • narrative
  • form
  • using ‘point of view’ in your work
  • the completion of a short story

What could I do next?

You may wish to progress to our ‘moving on with creative writing skills’ course. Your tutor will provide more information about this at the end of your course. We also offer courses in other creative subjects which may interest you.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
