If you already have a good grasp on the basics of machine embroidery – perhaps from some of our other courses – then this is the ideal place to develop those skills further.

Over four weeks, you’ll design, plan and complete your own unique project – learning exciting new skills along the way. You might choose to make a cushion cover, a table runner, gift cards, wall hangings or even modify a piece of clothing – the possibilities are endless.

You’ll learn how to use a wider range of materials and scale and try out new techniques like bobbin work, couching, appliqué, specialist threads and twin and triple needle techniques.

Your tutor will help and guide you through the new processes you’re learning, enabling you to bring your creative ideas into reality and leaving you with the skills to work on your own projects in the future.

What do I need to join the course?

You must be aged 19 or over: ideally you should have completed our developing your machine embroidery skills course, however, this is not essential if you already have basic skills in machine embroidery.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

Some resources are included in the cost of your course; your tutor will advise you of any other materials you may need once you have decided on your individual project.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught and supported by an experienced tutor and will take part in a range of activities including demonstrations, group and practical individual work. You will be able to take home what you make!

What will I learn?

  • how to plan, cost out and complete a project of your own design.
  • how to use attachments on the sewing machine and more advanced techniques in order to produce stunning results.
  • how to create and complete machine embroidered embellishments to a high standard.
  • to use of a wide range of specialist materials and/or scale (micro/macro), consider previously untried techniques and/or stitches. (Bobbin work, couching, appliqué, specialist threads and twin/triple needle techniques.)

What can this course lead to?

After completing this course you may wish to progress on to one of our other creative courses such as dressmaking, pottery, Art, interior design, drawing and painting etc. There are also a range of other courses that you may be interested in such as computer and ICT, English, maths and employability skills.
