This course is delivered via remote learning. You will not need to attend any physical delivery but you will need to commit to attending the remote session at the specified date and time as well as undertaking around 4 hours of independent study per week. This qualification aims to build on existing knowledge and provide a more in-depth analysis of the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work. You will develop your counselling skills and your understanding of the different approaches involved; helping you to appreciate the importance of self-development. This qualification does not qualify you to practise as a counsellor but, if you have an interest in developing your skills or are thinking of a career change, it will give you the opportunity to learn more about the theory and ethics and help you to make choices about further employment and training options.

What do I need to join the course?

You must have attended the Introduction to Counselling Skills course before enrolling on this provision. Your English skills should be of a level 2 standard. Before enrolling you will also need to talk to one of our members of staff who will explain the course requirements to you in full and advise you about the required access to online learning.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

This course is delivered via virtual learning. You will not need to attend any physical delivery but you will need to commit to attending the remote session at the specified date and time. In order to participate in virtual sessions, you will need access to the following: Computer/Laptop/Tablet Headset/earphones, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed / disturb others) A reliable internet connection An email address to access the virtual classroom A means of using video conferencing e.g. integrated webcam, webcam, smart phone/tablet with camera Teams app downloaded (a free download is available) You may find it useful to have a A4 ringbinder, notebook and pen to make notes and you may be asked to submit work back to your tutor, therefore the ability to produce a text or word document that you can upload or email to your tutor will be beneficial

How will I be taught?

These sessions will be delivered virtually on Teams by an experienced tutor and will include presentations, demonstrations and discussions as well as group online activities and individual exercises. You will be expected to carry out work and research away from the classroom in order to gain the required skills and knowledge. A commitment to attend all virtual sessions is essential along with the requirement to produce a portfolio of evidence for assessment.

What will I learn?

  • This qualification will introduce you to the use of counselling skills in everyday life and work, and to some of the approaches underpinning the use of these skills.
  • You will have the opportunity to investigate the knowledge and skills needed to use counselling skills and engage in a helping interaction appropriately.

What could I do next?

This Level 2 course does not qualify you to practice as a Counsellor. However, people on this course have developed their careers in: Customer Service Roles Advice and Guidance Mentoring Health and Social Care Team Leading You may wish to go on to studying for a level 3 / 4 counselling or join one of our Health and Social Care courses; we offer courses in Mental Health Awareness, Self Esteem and Confidence Building and Mindfulness; your tutor will discuss the options with you during your time on this course.
