This course is for absolute beginners, and will give you the skills you need to make the best use of the technology you have to hand. From how to turn your device on and off safely and use different input devices – like a keyboard, mouse, touchpad or touchscreen – to searching online and using digital skills to become more independent.
By the end of the course you’ll have a much better understanding of how your device works, what tools are best for several tasks you’re likely to want to perform often and how you can use technology to gain your own independence.
As the course is being delivered virtually through Microsoft Teams you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge) and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities.
If you are unsure about how to join a virtual learning session please contact us as soon as possible, but at the latest 2 working days prior to your course starting. We will then arrange for one of our Personal Advisors to contact you and talk you through how to access the sessions.
You may also want to attend the ‘preparing for virtual learning’ short session; this will help you to get started and feel confident in participating with any future virtual learning courses. For more details on this please visit https://ols.eastriding.gov.uk/wcfwebsite/eryc/default.aspx or contact us at 01482-887670 learn.beverley@eastriding.gov.uk
Your learning will be supported online by an experienced tutor through small and large group discussions, video clips, reading materials and practical activities. You will also be invited to develop your skills and understanding through reading and practice between sessions.
Attendance at all sessions is important if you are to receive the full benefits of this course. You will be given the opportunity to have one to one tutorials with your tutor to discuss personal progress.
You may want to continue to develop your skills by joining one of our other digital related courses. Please discuss options available with your tutor or follow the link below to explore our range of courses available on our course booking system.
