On this session, you’ll learn about the Mandala – a geometric design based around circles and symmetry – that holds a great deal of symbolism in Hindu and Buddhist cultures.
You’ll also spend time learning about the process used to create a mandala, focusing on the techniques and tools used to create your own unique design which is instantly recognizable as a mandala. There is no wrong way to create your personal mandala, so you’ll be able to concentrate on the skills that you are using rather than worrying about the end result.
By the end of the session, you’ll have created your own mandala. More importantly you’ll leave with the skills and knowledge to continue creating at home, as a way to find some essential calm in your day to day life.
Just enthusiasm to learn more! No experience is required to join this course.
Felt tips/pencil crayons if you have them, ruler or straight line to draw against, compasses to draw circles - don’t worry if you haven’t got these resources, we have some supplies at the centre that you may borrow.
You will be taught by an experienced tutor and will take part in a range of activities including watching a presentation and then receiving support whilst creating your own image.
On this short course you will briefly explore the origins of Mandala art – look at some of the more famous images and artists and then, with tutor support, have a go at creating your own Mandala influenced art image to take home with you.
You may wish to develop your skills further by enrolling on one of our other art courses, or take part in other creative subjects such as photography, knitting, dressmaking, interior design, creative writing and fabric dyeing and printing. We also offer courses in English, maths, computers and employability.
