Are you looking to really take on the challenge of public speaking? Do you want to get your message across in a dynamic and modern way – fit for the 21st Century? Do you want to finally get on top of any nerves and allow your truly confident self to shine through?

This course is specially designed for people like you who really want to make an impact when they speak in public whether that’s at a meeting, at an interview, or at a large conference for example.

What do I need to join the course?

If you want to develop your confidence when speaking in public then this course is for you. This could be in team meetings, interviews, when delivering training etc. Although there are no official prerequisites to the course, successful completion of the course requires learners to deliver a 5 minute presentation to the rest of the group.

As the course is being delivered virtually through Microsoft Teams you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge) and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Ensure you have pen and paper for taking notes. You will also need to come prepared with an idea that you can present to the group on for 5 minutes at the end of the course. The topic should be relevant to your role/service area. The content of the presentation will be developed throughout the training session.

This course is delivered via virtual learning on Microsoft Teams. You will not need to attend any classroom delivery but you will need to commit to attending the virtual sessions at the specified dates and times. In order to participate in the virtual sessions you will need access to the following:

  • Computer/Laptop/Smartphone/Tablet
  • Headset/earphones if required, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed/disturb others
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address to access the virtual classroom
  • A means of using video conferencing e.g. integrated webcam, webcam, smart phone/tablet with camera
  • Teams app downloaded https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app

How will I be taught?

Your learning will be supported by an experienced trainer, this will be an interactive session and you will be able to take part in small and large group discussions and share your thoughts. Additional reading may be required to support learning.

What will I learn?

This session aims to equip learners with the knowledge to plan prepare and deliver confident public speaking. This will be achieved by:

  • Understanding the importance of public speaking in leadership, and the importance of perception and influence in effective communication.
  • Exploring, through interactive exercises, what powerful public speaking looks like and how to make your message heard.
  • Knowing how to plan and prepare for a professional presentation and consider the difference between virtual and face to face delivery.
  • Demonstrating your skills and build confidence by presenting a 5 minute talk to the group on a professional subject of your choice.
