There are an increasing number of studies, backed by scientific research, that suggest that slowing down and being more ‘present’ can help alleviate feelings of anxiety, depression and stress.

Photography is a physical way to practice mindfulness and is all about being in the moment, acknowledging the unique beauty in everyday scenes, ordinary subjects or situations. Photography encourages mindfulness by heightening our awareness of seeing and helps to:

  • slow down, stay calm and connected
  • reduce anxiety and depression and improve mental health and wellbeing
  • improve self esteem and confidence
  • gain clarity, focus, creativity, and motivation

What will I learn?

You will:

  • become more familiar with your camera/phone and the settings so that you can concentrate more on the actual subject
  • learn the best way to hold the device to capture a moment in time
  • capture portraits and learn how to positively appreciate how others see you
  • use Macro mode on your camera/phone to fully focus on your subject and how it makes you feel
  • create a photo journal during the course to record your images and feelings
