Course details

This activity aims to give those employees in supervisory positions a working knowledge of Health and Safety requirements for their job role and, thus, be able to manage their colleagues in a safe and compliant manner.

The 1 day refresher course is required every 3 years. It gives an in-depth guide to Health and Safety legislation and aims to raise awareness of the responsibilities that all managers and supervisors plus Health and Safety specialists are expected to maintain.

This qualification must be renewed every 3 years by completing the IOSH Managing Safely Refresher - 1 day course.

What do I need to join the course?

In order to be eligible to complete this course you must be in a supervisory or people management role.

Please be advised that there will be a charge for the mandatory course workbook and the IOSH certificate. Additionally, if a cancellation is made within two weeks of the course start date, the associated costs will still be applicable.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

If your course is delivered online:
You’ll need a reliable internet connection and a device such as a laptop, tablet or PC.  A quiet space and headphones and a microphone are recommended for the best experience. Please be online and prepared when the session begins.

For face-to-face sessions:
Please bring a notepad or a device for making notes. Ensure you arrive promptly so the session can start on time. For courses delivered in person, please bring refreshments/meals with you as these are not provided.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by an experienced trainer and will take part in a range of activities including demonstrations, group and individual work. A workbook will be provided as part of the session to support your learning.

The course is concluded with a written examination.

  • about the concept of the Management of Risk.
  • how to Control risk.
  • the main points of the English legal framework when related to Health and Safety.
  • about general workplace hazards.
  • how Performance Measurement is undertaken with regards to safety management.
  • about general Accident Investigation and Reporting processes.
