Pottery allows you to escape the everyday worries of life and shift your focus toward your creative activity.  Being able to fully focus something helps the mind relax and expand, which will help you to focus in other areas of your life.

This course is part of our Pottery for Health and Relaxation offer.

You will use the skills you have already learned on our other courses( Relaxation through pottery- Coiling and burnishing and Relaxation through pottery -Slab built sculpture) and investigate new ways  to use them.

You will further explore the techniques of hand building, glazing and using the potter’s wheel to create, among other items, a hand built sculpture and a useful household piece to keep for yourself or to give as a personal gift.

What will I learn?

Through using the following techniques:

  • hand building
  • using stencils and other decorative techniques in coloured slip
  • using glazes and wax resist to create interesting effects.
  • using the potter’s wheel Centring and making
  • creating a household piece – butter dish, garlic pot, kimchi jar, board/serving platter

You will:

  • learn to recognise your stress triggers
  • take time to be ‘in the moment’
  • adapt your working practices to support further relaxation
  • recognize strategies you could use to aid relaxation in the future
