Increasing number of studies, backed by scientific research, suggest that slowing down and being more ‘present’ can help to ease feelings of anxiety, depression and stress.

Being able to fully focus on something helps the mind relax and expand, which will help you be more present when carrying out other tasks in your daily life.

Because there's not a lot of active thinking or worrying involved and you are extending your senses throughout your body, making pottery can be incredibly relaxing – it allows you to escape the worries of life and shift your focus toward creation.

On this course you will explore the basic techniques of slab building and practise ‘being in the moment’ whilst creating your ceramic items.

What will I learn?

You will:

  • learn about Health and Safety and recommended studio practice
  • record your personal progress in a journal
  • learn how to design and build slab pieces
  • take time to be ‘in the moment’ and fully enjoy the activity
  • learn how to burnish and decorate your ceramic piece
  • identify one strategy you will adopt to aid relaxation in the future

They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience.
