Course details

Office 365 provides accessibility tools built into their applications. These tools can help individuals with Specific Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) complete day-to-day tasks within Office 365 applications.

While some accessibility tools are designed to help users navigate and engage with documents, many of the tools are designed to help people create accessible documents. It is important that all document creators do their best to ensure their completed file is as accessible as possible.

What will I learn?

All learners will learn about the available accessibility tools within Office 365, designed to help users design accessible content and interact with existing documents with the aid of these accessibility tools.

These include:

  • Immersive Reader
  • View Modes
  • Page Colour
  • Focus
  • Spell checker

To help with creating accessible content, Microsoft provides:

  • Accessibility checker – (Designed to check a document and notify the creator of any accessibility issues).
  • Alt Text – (To be added to an image so that those with impaired vision can be notified of the image)
  • Headings – (To make documents easier to navigate to specific sections).

Many of these tools are available in multiple Office 365 applications.

What is it like to learn with Learning Skills and Workforce Development?

This session will be comprised of presentations, activities and assessments. You will be required to engage in discussions, complete either group or individual tasks and evidence your understanding via a quiz.

Full support will be available during the session and copies of the presentation will be made available on request.

What do I need to join the course?

NB: The session may take place in any one of our adult learning centres in Bridlington, Beverley, Cottingham or Goole. This will be confirmed at least two weeks prior to the session.

Delegates will be required to bring their staff laptops and have access to Teams and Office 365. If you wish to attend but do not have access to a staff laptop, please speak to your line manager to find out if you can loan a laptop for the training. If this is not possible, please contact the training support team eryctraining.support@eastriding.gov.uk, and we will see if we can provide you with the use of a laptop.

You will need a basic understanding of using a computer and logging on using a username and password.

Please ensure you come with the following:

  • Your council laptop or an appropriate device to work on.
  • Your council login details.
