If you are interested in health and nutrition, like to pursue a career in this area or would like to progress within your current employment, then this Level 2 course, in Understanding Nutrition & Health (TQUK), will provide you with training in the principles of healthy eating and weight management, nutrition in the context of eating disorders and how to prepare food safely in a home environment and you’ll also gain a qualification to add to your CV.

On this course you’ll learn about developing a better understanding of nutrition to make healthier food choices to manage your own weight or support others with weight management to promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the risk of more serious health conditions related to obesity. The effects of diet are felt throughout the body, from the way we look to our mental health so knowing how to maintain a healthy diet is important.

What will I learn?

This qualification is designed to increase the learners knowledge and understanding of nutrition and healthy eating and covers:

  • Planning and achieving a healthy diet
  • How an individual’s dietary requirements change throughout their life
  • Food labelling and the ability to use information from food label
  • Eating disorders
  • The role of a healthy diet for weight management
  • The principles of food safety in a home environment

What do I need to join the course?

You will speak to one of our Learner Experience Advisors prior to enrolling on the course, where you’ll be able to receive information, advice and guidance related to your course; they’ll also discuss your learning goals with you and answer any questions you may have.

This qualification is designed to provide learners, who want to increase their knowledge and understanding, of nutrition and health in areas such as healthy eating, nutritional needs, weight management, eating disorders and food safety in the home environment.

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification. You will need to have access to the East Riding eLearn platform and joining instructions will be sent to you after you have enrolled. A good internet connection is a useful tool for you to complete your self study tasks online to support your classroom learning.

Entry/Registration is at the discretion of the centre, in accordance with equality legislation and should be made on the Portal. Centres are responsible for ensuring that this qualification is appropriate for the age and ability of learners. They need to make sure that learners can fulfil the requirements of the learning outcomes and comply with the relevant literacy, numeracy and health and safety aspects of this qualification.

This is a knowledge only qualification. Work/industry placement experience is not required. Just an interest and enthusiasm to learn!

What do I need to provide for the first session?

Please bring along a notebook, pen, an interest in the subject and the personal commitment needed to complete the course.

You might like to develop your employability skills to help you to apply for a job or to progress within your current workplace; our range of short employability courses can help you to write or update your CV, search for team leadership jobs or to develop your interview skills so you can apply for jobs with confidence.

You may decide to improve your skills or work towards a qualification in English, maths or IT, or you may wish to consider further self-directed qualifications, such as the Level 2 certificate in Awareness of mental health problems.
