In this workshop, you will be able to use your existing skills to design and create a piece of your own choosing - crockery for your own home, or to give as gifts, decorative items for your garden or walls, or perhaps a sculptural piece. Our tutor will be on hand to offer support and guidance, helping you to perfect your own designs and advising on the techniques needed to create your final items. You will also have the opportunity to develop your hand building, throwing and decorative techniques.

What will I learn?

On the course, you will work on your own project and be able to consolidate skills, such as throwing pots, using glazes and surface decoration, and techniques for hand building sculpture.

What is it like to learn with East Riding Adult Learning and Employability?

At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability, we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, to the day you achieve your goals.

If you choose to learn with us you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in small, friendly and welcoming groups and have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities to practice your skills. You’ll be encouraged to continue to apply what you’ve learned when you’re away from the classroom and you’ll receive lots of encouragement and feedback to help you build both your skills and your confidence.

Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us to ensure that you always feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.

What do I need to join the course?

You should have experience of basic pottery techniques and you may benefit from having attended our range of pottery courses.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

The course fee includes basic materials, which will be supplied. You may need to purchase additional materials, depending on your individual project, and you will need to supply your own protective clothing, including an apron, gloves, and mask. We would also advise you to wear sensible footwear for moving around the pottery room. You will need to bring any additional items you wish to incorporate into your project on the first week. If you have any questions, then please contact us.

What could I do next?

Your tutor will advise you on how you may further develop your pottery skills.

You may also consider some of our other courses such as knitting, creative writing, dressmaking, patchwork and quilting, mindfulness and photography or computer skills, English, maths and employability courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
