What will I learn?

On this course, you will learn:

• How to install applications that can help you find your way around, such as Google Maps, What3Words, EYMS Travel, parking apps and the Trainline.
• How to use these apps to find locations, directions and amenities in your local area.
• How to use these apps to plan journeys, including finding bus/train times and paying for parking.

If you choose to join this course you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in a small friendly and welcoming group, have the opportunity to take part in activities to practise your skills, be encouraged to continue to practise when you are away from the classroom and receive lots of encouragement to help you build both your skills and your confidence.

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

What do I need to join the course?

A willingness to learn and a positive attitude! You should be comfortable with using a smartphone or tablet but no previous knowledge of using mapping/navigation apps is required. If you would like to learn more about this first, you might like to attend our Getting to Grips with Using Your Smartphone or Tablet course.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

You might find it useful to bring your own smartphone or tablet along to the session so that we can help you with using your very own device. We do have some tablets available in our centre for you to use if you do not have your own. You might also find it helpful to bring a notebook and pen to make some notes to help with your learning.

What could I do next?

You can choose to complete some of our other digital courses to improve your digital skills. As a next step, you could decide to learn more about communicating using your smartphone or using entertainment apps in our other smartphone and tablet courses.
