The Fast Track course is offered at both levels 1 and 2, and will enable you to complete a Functional Skills qualification in just 1 week.  Prior to being enrolled on the course, you will have an appointment with one of our Learner Experience Advisors and complete an assessment to ascertain your starting point, as well as ensuring this is the correct course for you.  As this is an intensive course, your attendance for 6 hours each day is mandatory and you must complete additional work outside of class time.

The Fast Track Maths course is tailored for learners who:

  • Are looking to start a college/university program, apprenticeship or training course, but need your Maths GCSE Grade 4 (C) or equivalent, as an entry requirement;
  • Have previously studied the qualification and need to improve their grade for job progression opportunities, personal development, or to open up new career pathways.

The course will enable you to develop key underpinning maths skills that cover the 3 main areas: Using Numbers and the Number System, Using common Measure, shape and Space and Handling Data.

Having a level 2 qualification in maths can open up lots of opportunities. It could help you get the career you want, or allow you to help your children with their coursework.

If you’re ready to start developing your Math skills then this could be the learning opportunity you’ve been looking for. Apply now and a member of the team will get in touch to get you started on your learning journey.

What will I learn?

You’ll start your learning journey by meeting with one of our friendly advisors, who will discuss what you’d like to learn and what your goals are. Your advisor will then make sure you are enrolled on the course at the right level for you.

You will be able to develop your skills in the three main aspects of maths:

  • Use and apply numbers in everyday situations including whole numbers of any size, fractions, decimals and percentages
  • Use common measures and work out simple relationships between common units of measurements to define quantities including money, time, weight, length and capacity
  • Select, construct and interpret a range of statistical diagrams in various contexts using tables, diagrams, charts and graphs to extract and interpret information.

You will also develop your problem solving skills as these cannot be taught, learned or practised in isolation; they are an integral part of your mathematical learning. Discussion is an important part of developing problem-solving skills. It helps you to understand different approaches to solving problems, to identify what information is needed, to make decisions about which operations and strategies to use, and to understand how to organise and check results. Explanation is equally important: by developing these skills you will be able to explain your approaches, methods and answers and thus promotes active learning through providing opportunities for you to use mathematical vocabulary, identify difficulties and confirm your understanding.

What is it like to learn with East Riding Adult Learning and Employability?

At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, right through to achieving your learning aims and beyond to ensure that you have the skills, knowledge and advice you need to reach your goals.

When you apply for this Maths course your advisor will discuss with you all of the support we have available and together you will plan out your learning journey. When you get started in the classroom, your tutor will work with you to give you advice on the best ways to develop your skills and will support you to learn in a way that works for you.

All of our Maths courses take place in small, friendly and welcoming classes, where you will have the opportunity to take part in activities to practice your skills both independently and as part of a group.

You’ll have regular 1-1 time with your tutor to discuss your progress and to identify opportunities for further development. Your tutor will work with you to make sure that you always have the support you need and will also give you information about opportunities to develop your English or digital skills, exercise your creativity or improve your health and wellbeing. If you’re looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

What do I need to join the course?

You don’t need to have any previous experience of studying Maths, but you must be committed to attending the sessions and achieving your qualification.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

We recommend that you bring a notebook, a pen, and a folder, to keep all of your work together.

What could I do next?

Your tutor will support you in deciding your next steps; you might choose to continue improving your Maths, by working towards the next level of qualification, or by moving on to a related subject, such as digital skills, cookery, creative crafts, etc.

You might choose instead to develop your English skills and work towards a qualification in these areas.

Alternatively, you may decide to learn about mental health, neurodiversity or employability skills or explore our wider course offer, which includes topics such as photography, arts and crafts, and mindfulness.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
