Increasing number of studies, backed by scientific research, suggest that slowing down and being more ‘present’ can help to ease feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Making pottery can be incredibly relaxing – it allows you to escape the worries of life and shift your focus toward creation. Pottery offers you the ability to fully focus on the present, helping the mind relax and expand, which will help you be more present when carrying out other tasks in your daily life.

On this course you will practise relaxation through ‘being in the moment’ as you explore the basic techniques of slab building.

What will I learn?

You will learn about:

  • Health and Safety and recommended studio practice
  • recording your personal progress in a journal
  • how to design and build slab pieces
  • taking time to be ‘in the moment’ and fully enjoy the activity
  • how to burnish and decorate your ceramic piece
  • identifying one strategy you will adopt to aid relaxation in the future

How much will it cost?

This course is funded through Tailored Learning with the purpose of improving your health and well-being. The cost is shown further up on the page, but a concession may be available dependent on circumstances.
