Do you want to learn how to use emails to communicate with people and services online? Maybe you need to email your utility company about your recent bill, or perhaps you want to email a distant relative to keep in touch. If that’s the case, then our Using Your Computer: Managing Emails (Step 1) course is just for you. You will learn the basics of emailing including how to set up a secure email account, sending and receiving emails to/from other people and identifying parts of an email to help you with emailing for your day-to-day tasks.

What will I learn?

On this course, you will learn:

  • How to create an email account with a safe and secure password.
  • How to log in and out of your email account.
  • How to send emails to a single recipient, and how to send a copy of this email to others.
  • The different parts of an email.
  • How to read and respond to emails that you are sent.

How much will it cost?

This course is funded through Tailored Learning with the purpose of improving your essential digital skills. The cost is visible at the top of the page. Concessions may be available dependent on circumstances.

What is it like to learn with East Riding Adult Learning and Employability?

At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, to the day you achieve your goals.

If you choose to join this course you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in a small friendly and welcoming group, have the opportunity to take part in activities to practise your skills, be encouraged to continue to practise when you are away from the classroom and receive lots of encouragement to help you build both your skills and your confidence.

As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.

Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us ensure that you feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.

What do I need to join the course?

A willingness to learn and a positive attitude! You would benefit from knowing how to use a keyboard and mouse to interact with the computer and be able to open applications. If you would like to brush up on these skills first, why not complete our Using Your Computer: Mouse and Keyboard Skills course first.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

You might find it helpful to bring a notebook and pen to make some notes to help with your learning. If you already have an email address, it would be helpful for you to know the email address and password for the account. You don’t need to have an email address already, one of our friendly tutors will guide you through creating one.

What could I do next?

You can choose to complete some of our other digital courses to improve your computer skills. As a next step, you could choose to learn about using the internet, or even managing your files and folders. If you want to deepen your understanding of using emails, you could come along to Using Your Computer: Emails (Step 2) where you will learn more about sending and receiving attachments and having better organisational systems for your emails. You might also like to learn more about your smartphone or tablet by attending some of our smartphones and tablets courses.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
