Scientific studies suggest that slowing down and being more ‘present’ can help to ease feelings of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Making pottery allows you to escape the worries of life and shift your focus toward creation. Being able to fully focus on something helps the mind relax and expand, which will help you be more present when carrying out other tasks in your daily life.

The aim of Wellbeing for You is to discover relaxation techniques through practising creative arts. On this course you will explore mindfulness, relaxation and being in the moment as you learn basic pottery techniques in the making of a ceramic coil pot.

What will I learn?

You will:

  • learn about Health and Safety and recommended studio practice
  • record your progress in a personal journal
  • identify your present stress levels and your personal stress triggers
  • learn how to design and build a coil pot
  • take time to be ‘in the moment’
  • learn how to burnish your pot and decorate with stencils and slip
  • identify one strategy you will adopt to aid relaxation in the future

How much will it cost?

The course fee is displayed at the top of this page.

This course is funded through Tailored Learning the purpose of health and wellbeing. A fee concession may be available dependent on your circumstances.
