Have you always wanted to have a go at crafting your own pottery? Or maybe you’ve been watching The Great Pottery Throw Down and been inspired? Either way, this free Try Pottery course is the perfect way to get your hands dirty and see if it’s for you.
As well as being hugely satisfying, working with pottery is a great way to help you relax and put the stresses of everyday life to one side. On this taster course in our fully fitted studio, you’ll start to learn some of the basic skills and techniques needed to shape clay, and at the end you’ll have created something unique to take home with you.
And if you enjoy it, we have plenty of opportunities for you to take your learning further.
On this course you will prepare and roll out clay using guides.
You will learn how to measure and cut out accurately to make your own tile, coaster, or bunting, adding embellishments and decorations before you take it home.
You will also explore how learning a new skill can positively benefit your health and wellbeing.
This course is free.
At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first time you contact us, to the day you achieve your goals.
If you choose to join this course you will be supported by our dedicated staff, learn in a small friendly and welcoming group, have the opportunity to take part in activities to practise your skills, be encouraged to continue to practise when you are away from the classroom and receive lots of encouragement to help you build both your skills and your confidence.
As well as working in groups, you will benefit from regular time working with your tutor, discussing your progress and planning your next steps. They will also tell you about all of the other great opportunities that you have access to including help with developing your skills, joining one of our creative skills classes or sessions to improve your health, wellbeing, confidence or resilience. If you are looking for work or aiming for a change of role, then your tutor will also make you aware of the employability programmes we have available to support you in achieving your employment goals.
Our team will be there to support you at every step of your journey and we always welcome your feedback to help us ensure that you feel safe, happy, supported and welcome.
Enthusiasm to learn more! You do not need to have any previous experience or knowledge of pottery to join this course.
All resources will be supplied - just bring an apron with you.
Once you’ve attended this course, you’ll be able to decide whether you wish to continue to learn more about pottery. If so, then you may wish to progress to one of our other pottery courses and your tutor will give you more information about this in the session.
If you want to try a different subject then we offer a range of opportunities in computer skills, English, maths, employability, creative skills, retail, photography, supporting teaching and learning in schools etc.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
