Are you looking to improve your understanding and use of numeracy skills in your daily life, at home, and at work? Perhaps you want to brush up on the skills that would help you solve problems using and applying numbers in everyday situations? If so, then our Multiply – Budgeting course could be the opportunity you are looking for to help build confidence and develop your numeracy skills.
Come along to our friendly learning spaces, where you’ll meet one of our tutors, participate in a practical activity involving number and have the opportunity to discuss what it is you want to achieve so we have a clear picture of your actual needs.
In this funded budgeting session you will identify and discuss the numeracy skills around creating and maintaining a budget. You’ll work with the tutor to put together a personal budget based on your income and outgoings and work out how you could save money on a monthly basis.
We’ll also look at how to use everyday maths, such as reading timetables, comparing costs for travel, and working out how to get the best deal on your weekly shop!
By the end of the session we will have shown you:
On completion of the session you will be able to make an informed decision on whether to continue with more learning.
At East Riding Adult Learning and Employability we pride ourselves on the support we give to our learners, from the very first phone call, right through to achieving your learning aims and beyond to ensure that you have the skills, knowledge and resources you need to reach your goals.
When you enrol on a Multiply course, your tutor will work with you to give you advice on the best ways to develop your everyday number skills and what progression opportunities we have for you. They will discuss the support we have available and together you will plan out your learning journey.
All of our sessions and Digital/Functional skills courses take place in small, friendly and welcoming classes, where you will have the opportunity to take part in activities to practice your skills independently and as part of a group.
You’ll have 1-1 time with your tutor to discuss your progress and identify opportunities for further development. Your tutor will work with you to make sure that you always have the support you need to achieve your learning aim and to give you information about other opportunities you can access, whether this is developing your maths or digital skills or exploring options that are relevant to your wider goals.
You don’t need anything to join the course, just a willingness to participate in the session.
This course is suitable for learners who do not have a level 2 (GCSE or equivalent ) qualification in Numeracy, or for those who do have this but need to refresh skills and understanding to build confidence to use numbers at that level in life and work.
You may find it useful to have a notebook and a pen, to make notes.
When you’ve completed your learning, you will have the opportunity to discuss your next steps with our team. You might choose to join further employability courses or, you might choose instead to develop your English or digital skills or to work towards a qualification in these areas. Alternatively, you may decide to learn about mental health, neurodiversity or explore our wider course offer, which includes topics such as photography, arts and crafts and mindfulness.
