Course details

This eLearning is an introductory session and a prerequisite for the face-to-face hoarding training.

However, the eLearning package is also a standalone course that will equip you with an awareness of Hoarding.

This course aims to provide a good foundation and awareness of the mental health diagnosis of ‘hoarding’. The course will provide learners with a basic understanding and knowledge of what hoarding is and its impact on individuals. It will help learners differentiate between hoarding and self-neglect and the various approaches available to ensure that our response is appropriate for the person and thus "person centred".

Hoarding disorder is a mental health condition characterised by an individual saving items that appear to have little or no worth to others. It is a disorder that is deeply misunderstood by many.

Hoarding can have a significant impact on an individual. It may cause stress and anxiety which can lead to emotional distress, conflict, isolation, strained relationships and unsafe living conditions.

This training will help learners understand the disorder and dispel many myths that surround it. It provides a good foundation and clear definition of the mental health diagnosis of ‘hoarding’. It will equip learners with basic knowledge and understanding of hoarding and it's impact on an individual and their loved ones.

What will I learn?

On this course you will:

  • Recognise the diagnosis of hoarding and how this can manifest.
  • Identify hoarding and self-neglect.
  • Outline the impact of hoarding.
  • Apply supportive interventions and engagement.

What will I be taught?

This is an eLearning course, which allows you to work at your own pace. Once logged on to eLearn you can access the course on your dashboard. You will find information to read and activities to take part in which must be answered correctly to progress through the course.

A final summative quiz will assess your overall learning and understanding.

What do I need to join the course?

A reliable internet connection, a computer/Laptop/Tablet/Smartphone, you may also choose to use a headset or earphones with a microphone attachment. You may also wish to have a notepad and pen available for making any notes. You should ensure that you have a suitable place to study that is free from any distractions.

In order to join this eLearning course you will need: A reliable internet connection and a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone/Smartphone. You may also choose to use a headset or earphones. You will need to have access to the East Riding eLearn platform, joining instructions will be sent to you after you have enrolled.
