This 3-week preparation course offers a supportive foundation for those who would like to start working towards a Functional Skills qualification in maths.
This short course will give you the opportunity to meet a maths tutor and one of our Learning Experience Advisors, who will work with you to discuss your goals and how we can help you to reach them.
In the sessions, you’ll take part in various activities that will help you to work out which level of maths is right for you and give you a taste of what you can expect to learn on a maths course with us. Your advisor will chat with you about any support needs you may have and how we can help you with these, so we can make sure you have everything you need to get started on your next step.
On this Getting Ready for Maths course, you’ll prepare for working towards a Functional Skills maths qualification and you’ll also learn some important study skills that will help you with your learning.
Here’s what you can expect to learn and experience on this course:
We’ll check your eligibility when you enroll, but in most cases, there’s no cost to you.
Getting Ready for Maths is designed for adults who want to build confidence, feel more positive and take a first step into learning. You don’t need any qualifications or experience to join this course; you should just be interested in improving your maths skills and working towards a Functional Skills maths qualification.
You don’t need to bring anything with you to take part. We’ll provide all the materials and resources you need. If you’d like to bring a pen and some paper to make notes, you can—but it’s completely optional. Just come as you are. Your tutor will make sure you feel welcome and ready to get started.
At the end of the course, we’ll help you think about what you’d like to do next. This might be progressing onto a maths qualification or another course, or it could be volunteering, getting more involved in your community, or preparing for work. You’ll get support to help plan your next steps and keep moving forward.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
