‘Tis the season for all things festive! If you’re looking for some Christmas cheer with a creative twist, then you’re in the right place with our festive Learning for Leisure opportunities.

‘Yuletide Tales’ is all about how we can capture some magical Christmas spirit in the way we tell stories. It’s about the things we associate with Christmas, from scene and setting, to themes and styles and how these come together to give us that festive feeling.

In this session, you’ll meet one of our experienced creative writing tutors, who will bring the group together to look at what makes a Christmas story a Christmas story. You’ll explore the key elements of popular Christmas fiction, both in print and on the screen and learn some techniques to use in your own writing.

Whether you’re an experienced creative writer, or you’re looking for an opportunity to try something new, you’ll come away from the session with an understanding of how Yuletide Tales are crafted and how you can spread some Christmas cheer with your own example of festive fiction.

What will I learn?

In this session you will:

  • Explore examples of Christmas storytelling in print and on the screen.
  • Consider the key themes and elements of festive fiction.
  • Learn how to draw upon these key aspects in your own writing to craft your own Yuletide Tales.
  • Have a go at writing your own example of a short Christmas story, or even plan a longer piece of work to finish at home.

How much will this cost?

The course cost is displayed at the top of the page. This is a full cost course.
