Course details

If English is not your first language and you would like to improve your basic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, then this course could be an ideal opportunity for you to develop your English.

This is an Entry Level ESOL course (English for Speakers of Other Languages). The course aims to help you to learn new grammar and vocabulary for everyday life and work and for getting more involved in your community, so you can put your learning to use right from the first session. You’ll be able to build your reading skills, focusing on everyday texts, such as recipes, travel instructions and news articles. You’ll be encouraged to practise speaking English with others and to take part in listening and writing activities too, so you can build your skills, knowledge and confidence in all areas of your English.

So, if you’d like to improve your English and work towards a qualification to show your progress, apply today and we will be happy to help you to get started on your learning journey.

What will I learn?

You’ll start your learning journey by meeting with one of our friendly advisors, who will make sure that you are enrolled on the course at the right level for you.

You will be able to develop your skills in all aspects of English:

Reading

You’ll be supported to read a range of everyday texts, such as food menus, travel information, information leaflets and news articles. You’ll also learn strategies for tackling unfamiliar language, such as by using an English or bilingual dictionary.

Writing

You’ll learn how to use basic grammar and punctuation to help you to communicate with others, such as writing messages to friends, family and colleagues. You’ll also learn how to fill out forms with your personal information and to write more complex texts, such as letters and emails.

Speaking

You’ll be able to practise your pronunciation of new vocabulary and will learn how to ask and answer questions, share your opinion and get to know other people better.

Listening

You’ll be able to take part in speaking and listening activities with other learners to help you to develop and practise your skills and will also listen to a range of everyday audio messages, such as news reports, phone messages and speech from other people.

How much will it cost?

This course is funded, subject to eligibility.
