What will I learn?

During this course you will explore the fundamentals of colour and develop your confidence in selecting, mixing and using colour within your artwork. You will make our own colour grid for watercolour pencils to refer to throughout the course.

After tutor demonstrations and practical activities, you will explore and experiment with painting using different art materials to make shades, tints and tones and discover how small changes in colour can produce very different effects. You will draw from observation still life arrangements as well as from established artists to practice varied methods of applying colour to surface.

You will take a photo or two from your viewpoint, which will later be printed for you to make a series of artworks from. These useful media tests also enable you to understand how artists' paint strokes make texture and water is used to create washes etc.

Throughout the course you will be supported in experimenting, selecting and refining, exploring and developing your use of colour and method of painting. You will draw onto a canvas your favourite composition and complete it using your most successful colour painting techniques.

By the end of the course, you'll have learnt about artists' use of colour and be confident applying a range of techniques and ideas in your own artwork.
