Discover the satisfaction of turning clay into your own unique pottery pieces.
This enjoyable, hands-on course is ideal for complete beginners as well as those who already have some experience of working with clay.
During the sessions you will have the opportunity to slow down, be creative and enjoy learning in a relaxed and welcoming environment. With support from an experienced tutor, you will develop your ideas, build confidence and create pieces that reflect your own personal style.
Working with clay can be both calming and rewarding, giving you the opportunity to take time for yourself, meet others and experience the pride of making something beautiful and practical for your home as well as for display.
What will I learn?
During this course you will learn how to prepare the clay to remove the air. You will then use techniques such as slab, coil and pinching to form pots in moulds as well to your own desired shapes. You will explore the main decorative methods of using coloured slips, engobes - with or without cut out paper stencils, maybe your own newspaper transfers too as you will explore many ways of decorating before the first firing.
Through your development of using practical skills in modelling, joining and decorating clay, & exploring surface techniques to add texture, pattern and personal detail to your design your work will become more refined and finished to a high standard.
After watching a demonstration, you will apply glazes carefully to your pot before the final firing.

What do I need to join the course?
No previous experience is required. Please wear suitable clothing that you don't mind getting a little messy, closed-toe footwear and bring an apron if you have one.
What do I need to provide for the first session?
All clay, tools, tutor support and kiln firing are included in the course fee.
