ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a form of neurodivergence that can affect how people regulate attention, manage activity levels, organise tasks and process information. This session offers an opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of the condition and the diverse ways it can present across individuals of different ages.

During the session, you will explore the characteristics commonly associated with ADHD and consider how these may influence an individual's everyday life, learning, relationships and work. The course will also highlight the strengths that many people with ADHD bring, alongside the challenges they may experience.

You will gain an understanding of current approaches to support and inclusion, as well as information about the range of services, strategies and resources available to children, young people and adults with ADHD. Whether you are supporting someone with ADHD, interested in neurodiversity, or seeking to increase your own awareness, this session will provide practical insights and knowledge to help create more inclusive environments.

What will I learn?

After attending this session, you will:

  • Understand what ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is and recognise it as a form of neurodivergence.
  • Explore the common characteristics of ADHD and how these can vary from person to person.
  • Gain insight into how ADHD may affect everyday life, education, employment, relationships and wellbeing.
  • Recognise the strengths, talents and positive attributes often associated with ADHD, alongside potential challenges.
  • Develop an awareness of the experiences of children, young people, and adults with ADHD.
  • Understand the importance of inclusive and neurodiversity-affirming approaches.
  • Identify sources of help, guidance and support available for people with ADHD and those who support them.
