The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.
If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.
Just an enthusiasm to learn and a willingness to have a go. Please note that East Riding of Yorkshire Council is unable to guarantee a completely allergen free environment. If you would like more information prior to booking please contact us.
Please bring an apron with you and a container with a lid to take home what you make. You will also need to bring with you the following ingredients:
Chocolate orange cheesecake: 65g shortbread biscuits, 50g milk chocolate, 150g cream cheese, ½ orange, 1tbsp white chocolate stars (optional)
Pear and almond tart: ½ tin of pear halves
Microwave sponge: No additional ingredients to bring.
*Please note that if you are entitled to a concession and you qualify for a free course then please talk to us as we may be able to support you with the cost of these ingredients.
You will participate in both group demonstrations and work alongside the tutor to practise the skills and techniques of preparing and making.
Our tutor will guide you through the processes of preparing quick and easy desserts using basic cookery techniques. You will also learn some useful tips and tricks on how to present your dishes in a way that will tempt even the fussiest eater!
Our cookery classroom opened at the Cottingham Adult Learning Centre in December 2018 and we are really excited to be able to offer a range of seasonal courses that appeal to cooks of all levels. Your tutor will discuss our range of cookery sessions with you and we will also ask you for your ideas of what you would like to see on offer in the future. Other sessions include bread making, making sweet treats, making soups, batch cooking, desserts, family cookery, speciality world cuisine, healthy eating, meals on a budget and pastry making.
You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
