Are you a leader looking to better understand your emotional intelligence, to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, allows you to communicate more effectively, empathise with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict? This session will guide you through what is meant by emotional intelligence, how it can help you build stronger relationships, allowing you to see the links between emotional intelligence, behaviour and performance. It will help you to connect with your feelings, turning intentions into actions, and help you make informed decisions about what matters to you the most.

What do I need to provide for the first session?

The course is for those who want to develop their emotional intelligence, release potential and improve understanding of their team and management / leadership style. Although there are no official prerequisites to the course, there will be a need to be open minded and be prepared to reflect on yourself and areas for development.

As the course is being delivered virtually through Microsoft Teams you will need to ensure that you are able to connect to the internet, have a web browser (e.g. Google chrome, Microsoft Edge) and are able to follow the links to take part in the virtual activities.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

This course is delivered via virtual learning on Microsoft Teams. You will not need to attend any classroom delivery but you will need to commit to attending the virtual sessions at the specified dates and times.

In order to participate in the virtual sessions you will need access to the following:

  • Computer/Laptop/Smartphone/TabletHeadset/earphones if required, including a microphone (unless you are able to work in an area where you will not be disturbed/disturb others
  • A reliable internet connection
  • An email address to access the virtual classroom
  • A means of using video conferencing e.g. integrated webcam, webcam, smart phone/tablet with camera
  • Teams app downloaded https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-365/microsoft-teams/download-app

You may find it useful to have a notebook and pen to make notes and you may be asked to submit work back to your tutor, therefore the ability to produce a text or word document that you can upload or email to your tutor will be beneficial.

How will I be taught?

Your learning will be supported online by an experienced trainer, this will be an interactive session and you will be able to take part in small and large group discussions and share your thoughts. Additional reading may be required to support learning.

What will I learn?

This session aims to equip learners with greater awareness and explore Golmans theory on E.I. This will include understanding the benefits of emotionally intelligent leadership, the barriers, challenges and how it can benefit levels of trust, understanding and ultimately performance.  It is an interactive session in which learners will:

  • Understand what is meant by the term emotional intelligence
  • Explore the different elements of Golman’s EI framework, and how it relates to you and your leadership
  • Consider the benefits of emotionally intelligent leadership.
  • Learn how to better understand themselves and others and the benefits for the overall team in terms of trust, respect and performance.
