Asperger’s is a term we are hearing more and more often, but what does it actually mean? This three-hour session has been designed to give you an introduction to Asperger’s syndrome, so you can understand what it is, how it affects people and what support is available for people with a diagnosis.

What are you doing to keep learners safe?

The safety of our learners and staff is our top priority and we’ve made some big changes to our centres, from socially-distanced training rooms to staggered start times. Although things will look different, our staff will be as friendly and helpful as ever and we’re really excited to welcome learners back.

If you’re concerned about visiting one of our centres, please get in touch so we can discuss it with you.

What do I need to join the course?

Just an interest in learning about Asperger’s syndrome. This course is an ideal starting point in learning about Asperger’s and no previous knowledge or experience is necessary; if you are currently studying or plan to study topics such as counselling, mental health or working with children, this would be an ideal course to expand your knowledge.

What do I need to bring with me to the first session?

You don’t need to bring anything, but you might want to bring your own notebook and pen.

How will I be taught?

You will be taught by a friendly and knowledgeable tutor and take part in individual and group work and discussions.

What will I learn?

You will learn what Asperger’s syndrome is and how it affects people. You will also learn about how people with Asperger’s are diagnosed and what it means to be on the autistic spectrum and what support is available to those with a diagnosis

What could I do next?

You may want to come to a similar session on dyslexia, dyspraxia or ADHD, or you may want to progress to a qualification in understanding Asperger’s syndrome. We also offer courses on Mental Health, Counselling and Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, as well as maths, English and Digital Skills. Your tutor will be able to provide more information about these options at the end of the session.

Can we help you to learn?

You can find more information on the Financial help and additional support page or you can contact us to talk about this and any other support we can provide.
